Florida – September 30, 2024. Governor Ron DeSantis provided updates for Florida policyholders following Hurricane Helene, including the issuance of an emergency order by the Office of Insurance Regulation to protect policyholders impacted by the storm. Insurers are required to allow a grace period for premium payment and allow coverage to remain in effect despite late or nonpayment of premiums for policyholders in the following counties: Alachua, Brevard, Charlotte, Citrus, Clay, Collier, Columbia, DeSoto, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gadsden, Gilchrist, Glades, Gulf, Franklin, Hamilton, Hardee, Hendry, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Indian River, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Lee, Leon, Levy, Liberty, Madison, Manatee, Marion, Martin, Nassau, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Palm Beach, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Putnam, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Johns, St. Lucie, Sumter, Suwannee, Taylor, Volusia and Wakulla counties. The grace period remains in effect until December 10, 2024.
Georgia – October 8, 2924. In response to recent storms surrounding hurricane Helene, insurers are required to allow a grace period for premium payment and allow coverage to remain in effect despite late or nonpayment of premiums for policyholders in the following counties: Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Baldwin, Ben Hill, Berrien, Bleckley, Brantley, Brooks, Bryan, Bulloch, Burke, Camden, Candler, Charlton, Chatham, Clinch, Coffee, Colquitt, Columbia, Cook, Echols, Effingham, Emanuel, Evans, Glascock, Glynn, Hancock, Irwin, Jeff Davis, Jefferson, Jenkins, Johnson, Lanier, Laurens, Liberty, Long, Lowndes, McIntosh, Montgomery, Pierce, Putnam, Richmond, Screven, Taliaferro, Tattnall, Telfair, Tift, Toombs, Treutlen, Turner, Ware, Warren, Washington, Wayne, Wheeler, Wilkinson, and Worth. The grace period remains in effect until November 30, 2024.
North Carolina – September 30, 2024. Based upon the disaster created by Tropical Storm Helene, Insurance Commissioner Causey issued an order that requires insurers to allow a grace period for premium payment and allow policyholders coverage to remain in effect despite late or nonpayment of premiums in the following counties: Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Clay, Cleveland, Gaston, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Lincoln, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Transylvania, Watauga, Wilkes, Yancey. The Disaster Declaration also applies to the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians of North Carolina. The grace period remains in effect until November 29, 2024.
Tennessee – September 27, 2924. Due to Hurricane Helene’s impact causing severe weather and flooding in Tennessee, Governor Lee has issued a major disaster and state of emergency which calls for insurers to make reasonable efforts to assist all Tennessee policyholders who have experienced loss due to severe weather and requests that insurers work with policyholders before cancelling for non-payment of premiums through November 26, 2024.
